ROMEO
Retired Older Men Eating Out
This group was set up a number of years ago to enable men to meet together in an informal way. Most men are from Bethesda and Cefn Wood but others from Cardiff, Caerleon, Cwmbran, Abertillery and Newbridge attend. The venues vary from our own church premises to places such as Newport Golf Club, The Rock Bedwas, Tabernacle Church Rhiwderin, Picnic at the Rogerstone Welfare, etc..
Around the tables, as well as eating, there are a range of conversations which take place - personal interests, in depth Biblical thinking, occasionally sport, shared experiences and occupations - to name a few. In every meeting someone gives a short talk about their lives and how their faith is still important to them.
Twice a year, evening events are arranged to enable younger men to attend. The speakers come from a wide variety of careers including Sports Personalities, Doctors, Lawyers, Policemen etc. Again, each of the speakers share their faith. In the Spring and Autumn, a 'trip' is arranged to visit places like the SS Great Britain, Car Museums and Steam Trains.
This group has been an encouragement to so many, especially those who are widowers or live alone. Being with others who have gone through the same things helps us all to be focused on our responsibilities in caring for and sharing with others in simple ways.
